Datenschutzerklärung

This Privacy Policy explains how Stadtlogik handles your personal data when you visit stadtlogik.de, sign up for our newsletter, or interact with us in other ways. It is written in plain English to help you understand your rights and our responsibilities. We recommend reading it alongside our Cookie Policy, which covers how we use cookies and similar technologies on the site.

Who controls your data and how can you reach us?

Stadtlogik Media Ltd., a private company registered in Gibraltar (company number C 92009, Malta Business Registry), is the data controller for all personal information collected through stadtlogik.de. Our registered office is Office 9, Business Centre, Valletta, 0000. You can contact our data protection team at privacy@stadtlogik.de or write to us at the registered address. Our Editor-in-Chief, Simon Schwarz, oversees editorial standards but does not handle day-to-day data enquiries, so please use the privacy email for any requests about your personal data.

We are committed to protecting your privacy in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Gibraltar Data Protection Act 2018. As a publisher based outside the UK, we have appointed a UK representative to ensure we meet our obligations. If you have any questions about how your data is processed, please reach out to us first – we aim to resolve any concerns promptly.

What personal information do we collect from you?

We collect only the information that you voluntarily provide or that is necessary for the basic functioning of our website. When you subscribe to our newsletter, we ask for your email address and, optionally, your name. If you contact us via info@stadtlogik.de or any of our editorial email addresses, we will keep a record of your correspondence, including your name and email address. When you submit a tip through our Tip Us page, we may collect your contact details and any information you choose to share with us.

We also automatically collect certain technical data when you browse stadtlogik.de, such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, and pages visited. This information is collected via cookies and similar tracking technologies. For full details, please see our Cookie Policy. We do not collect sensitive personal data (such as health, political opinions, or biometric data) unless you explicitly share it with us in a news tip or comment, and we will only process it where strictly necessary for journalistic purposes or with your explicit consent.

How and why do we use your personal information?

We use your personal information for clearly defined, legitimate business purposes that are compatible with our role as an independent news publisher. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we use your email address to send you our regular updates, as you have consented. If you contact us with a tip, a complaint, or a correction, we use the information you provide to investigate and respond to your message. Your contact details will not be added to any marketing list unless you explicitly opt in.

Technical data we collect helps us improve the security and performance of the site, understand which articles are popular, and support our advertising and affiliate revenue. This processing is based on our legitimate interest in maintaining and improving our journalistic service. We never sell your personal data to third parties. We do share anonymised, aggregated data with our advertising partners to serve relevant ads, but this cannot identify you personally. Sponsored content and affiliate links are always clearly labelled, as outlined in our Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure.

How long do we keep your data?

We keep your personal data only as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected, or as required by law. For newsletter subscribers, we retain your email address until you unsubscribe. For editorial correspondence (tips, corrections, complaints), we retain records for up to two years after the matter is resolved, unless a longer period is needed for legal or regulatory reasons. Server logs containing IP addresses are kept for up to 30 days.

If you request that we delete your data, we will do so promptly, unless we are legally obliged to retain it (for example, to comply with a court order or to defend ourselves against a legal claim). You can request deletion at any time by emailing privacy@stadtlogik.de.

How this works in practice

To make this policy concrete, consider this example: you email tips@stadtlogik.de with a news tip about a local council decision. Your email address, name, and the content of the tip are stored securely on our editorial system. Our Politikredaktör, Jonas Winkler, reviews your tip. After we publish a story based on the tip, we may keep your contact details for a few months in case we need to follow up. We will never forward your tip to a third party without your permission. If you later email privacy@stadtlogik.de to request deletion, we will remove your details from all systems, except for an anonymised log we keep for security auditing purposes. We will also send you a confirmation that the deletion has been completed.

What are your rights under UK GDPR?

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, data portability, and object to processing of your personal data. You also have the right to withdraw your consent at any time (for example, by unsubscribing from the newsletter). To exercise any of these rights, simply email privacy@stadtlogik.de with your request. We will respond within one month. If we cannot identify you, we may ask for additional information to confirm your identity.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) – the data protection authority for the United Kingdom. You can contact the ICO via their website at ico.org.uk or by calling their helpline. We will always try to resolve your issue first; please give us the opportunity to do so.

About our company and where your data is processed

Stadtlogik Media Ltd. is registered in Gibraltar and operates under the jurisdiction of the Gibraltar Regulatory Authority for data protection. However, because our primary readership is in Sweden and internationally, and we offer services to readers in the UK, we comply fully with UK GDPR. Your data may be processed on servers located within the European Economic Area (EEA) and in the United Kingdom. We ensure that any international transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission or the UK ICO.

If you are in the UK, you have the additional protections provided by UK GDPR. We have not appointed a formal Data Protection Officer, but our team at privacy@stadtlogik.de handles all data protection matters. For questions about our editorial independence and funding, see our Ownership & Funding page.

In short

Stadtlogik collects only the personal data you choose to give us or that is technically necessary to run the site. You can request access, correction, or deletion at any time by emailing privacy@stadtlogik.de. We never sell your data, and we are committed to handling it transparently and responsibly.
