Richtlinie zu KI & Automatisierung

This page explains how Stadtlogik uses AI and automation tools to support our journalism, and what guarantees you have that every piece remains human-led and trustworthy. We want you to understand exactly what role technology plays in our newsroom, and where the line is drawn. You can read the page from start to finish or jump to the section that interests you – the key points are summarised at the end.

What does this policy mean for you?

It means you can be confident that every article you read on Stadtlogik (stadtlogik.de) has been written, reviewed and approved by a human journalist, even when AI tools have been used in the background. We never publish anything generated solely by a machine, and we never use AI to replace editorial judgement or to fabricate information. This policy is part of our broader commitment to transparency, which you can also read in our Editorial Policy and our Fact-Checking Policy.

How does Stadtlogik use AI and automation?

Our digital tools may assist with research, drafting, editing, formatting, translation, metadata, headline suggestions, summaries and transcription. For example, an AI tool might help a reporter compile background data on a parliamentary vote, or suggest alternative headlines for an editor to choose from. In every case, the human writer and editor retain full control over the final output. The tool is a helper, not a decision-maker.

We also use automation for routine tasks such as generating HTML markup for articles, checking spelling and grammar, or transcribing interview recordings. These processes save time but never affect the substance of our journalism. Any content that benefits from AI assistance is still subject to the same editorial standards and fact-checking procedures as the rest of our output.

How this works in practice

Let’s take a concrete example. Suppose our Wirtschaftreporter Eva Martin is writing a piece on new Swedish housing market data. She may ask an AI tool to summarise a lengthy government report into bullet points, saving her from manually reading every page. She then writes the article herself, checks the numbers against the original source, and sends the draft to the Redaktionschef Katrin Kaiser, who reviews the story for clarity, tone and accuracy. Before publication, Ansvarig för faktagranskning Daniela Sauer verifies all key facts and sources. The AI summary was a preliminary step; the human work made the article trustworthy.

What is strictly prohibited?

We have clear rules about what AI can never do. It must not fabricate quotes, sources, interviews, bylines or author experience. It must not generate content that impersonates a real person or invents expert profiles. No article, headline or summary is published without a human editor’s final approval. We also prohibit the use of AI tools to produce sponsored or commercial content without explicit human oversight. Any violation of these rules is treated as a serious breach of our editorial standards and may lead to disciplinary action.

Who is responsible for ensuring this policy?

Stadtlogik Media Ltd., a private company registered in Gibraltar (company number C 92009), owns and operates Stadtlogik. The ultimate editorial responsibility lies with our Chefredaktör Simon Schwarz (anders.lindqvist@stadtlogik.de), who sets the standards for all content published. Our team of named editors – including Katrin Kaiser, Jonas Winkler, Eva Martin, David Schreiber and Daniela Sauer – each oversee specific areas of coverage and uphold this policy day to day. You can meet them on our team page.

If you have any concerns about how AI is used in a specific article, or about this policy in general, please contact us via our contact page or email our fact-checking team at factcheck@stadtlogik.de. We take all feedback seriously and will investigate promptly.

In short

Stadtlogik uses AI and automation only as supportive tools, never as a substitute for human editorial judgement. Every piece you read has been written, reviewed and fact-checked by named journalists and editors. You can trust that our journalism remains independent, accurate and transparent – regardless of the technology used behind the scenes.
